After a stunning one-hit career filled with chaos and
self-inflicted disasters, UK singer-songwriter John
Otway sold himself as Rock and Roll’s greatest failure.
Funded entirely by his fans, Rock and Roll’s Greatest
Failure: Otway the Movie sees this cult performer
return to teach a course on survival in the music
industry. In the midst of Britain’s ‘70s punk revolution
Otway enjoyed a fleeting taste of success with his single
"Cor Baby That’s Really Free," which reached number
27 in the UK charts. Unfortunately, his next hit came
25 years later. John Otway's career is an instructional,
yet magical lesson in self-promotion. He has recruited
his loyal fans for an endless number of manipulative
and over-the top projects which resulted in being voted
as the UK's 7th favourite lyricist by a BBC poll, securing
a top ten hit for his 50th birthday and landing a feature
film for his 60th. Failure has its rewards. It's kept Otway
in the spotlight for 35 years.
Subject John Otway will be in attendance for
Q&As and will perform a live acoustic set following
both screenings.
