Description

Doc Soup: Hot Docs' monthly screening series that presents Festival hits and award-winning docs.

Executive produced by Mark Achbar (The Corporation)

In 2006 the Colombian government invited foreign investment into one of its historic mining regions, which quickly became the focal point of a global gold rush. Sitting atop $20 billion in gold is Marmato, a small mining town with over 500 years of history and 8000 inhabitants who face displacement by an open-pit mining project. Filmed over six years, Marmato is the vivid story of these townspeople who employ increasingly dangerous survival tactics and defiant acts of resistance to save their town from the Canadian mining company that wants the gold beneath their homes.

Director Mark Grieco will participate in post-screening Q&As.
