Description

Films Changing the World: Must-see docs exploring new issues and transforming the way we see the world.

The legacy of slavery, sharecropping and the cotton industry have contributed to a vicious cycle of poverty and illiteracy in the Mississippi Delta. Against imposing odds and extreme hardship, great-grandmother LaLee Wallace struggles to ensure a better future for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also fighting poverty is school Superintendent Reggie Barnes, whose district has been put on probation by the state because of its low performance on standardized tests. Barnes knows that if they can break this cycle there will be hope for the future. This award-winning documentary examines the effects of poverty in the wake of more than one hundred years of slavery.
