Description

Join us as we honour the legacy of the late jazz trumpeter Clark Terry with a magnificent night filled with music and film, presented by Hot Docs and The Royal Conservatory of Music.

About the film

Legendary jazz trumpeter Clark Terry played alongside Charlie Barnet, Count Basie and Duke Ellington, and mentored generations of emerging musicians, including a young Miles Davis and Quincy Jones. Through his mentorships Clark left an indelible mark on music, including an unlikely bond with blind piano prodigy Justin Kauflin. The film follows Justin and Clark, as the two are brought together while Justin prepares for an international competition. Suffering from stage fright and fighting the stigma of his blindness, Justin relies heavily on Clark’s guidance and support. But when Clark's health takes a turn for the worse and his own vision begins to fade, the men find themselves face to face with the biggest challenges of their lifetimes. What started as a student/teacher relationship develops into a lasting friendship of love.

Clark Terry's close friend Kelly Peterson (wife of Oscar Peterson) and goddaughter Celine Peterson (daughter of Oscar Peterson) will participate in a post-screening Q&A. Justin Kauflin will give a short performance following the screening.

Tickets: $18 (Members: $15, $13, Free)
