Description

Bloor Takeover: A prominent writer, artist, or personality takes over Bloor programming for a night, letting their imagination run wild.

Michael Harris' bestselling and Governor General's Award-winning The End of Absence: Reclaiming What We’ve Lost in a World of Constant Connection was one of the most talked about books of 2014. It is a provocative examination of what it is like to be part of the only generation to know life before and after the internet. Michael Harris will take over the Bloor for an evening of film and conversation about life in the digital age.

To jumpstart this conversation, we'll screen The Matrix, one of the most masterful depictions of a system-gorged dystopia. What does it take to be an independent thinker? How Orwellian has our world become? How prescient is The Matrix? What came true, and are we even able to tell?

Film reviewer John Semley (The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star) will moderate the panel, led by Michael Harris. Panellists include Craig Silverman (founding editor of Buzzfeed Canada), Julia Cooper (managing editor of Cléo) and Nora Young (host, CBC’s Spark).

Tickets: $16 (Bloor Members: $12, $10, Free)
