Description

Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead: The Story of the National Lampoon takes a look at the history of Harvard’s National Lampoon magazine and how it redefined what made a generation laugh by combining intellectual humour with dark satire and sex. The magazine rose to become the top American comedy publication, spawning a radio broadcast, albums, live performances and films (Caddyshack, Vacation, Animal House). Every one of the Lampoon writers became celebrities themselves, making their magazine a hotbed for up-and-coming comic forces. With revealing interviews from Chevy Chase, John Landis, Ivan Reitman, Judd Apatow, Kevin Bacon, Beverly D’Angelo, Billy Bob Thornton and John Goodman, the film gives insight into the influence the magazine had on both their careers and the US as a whole. Utilizing original art, cartoons and photographs from the magazine, and never-before-seen rehearsal footage featuring John Belushi, Bill Murray and Gilda Radner, director Douglas Tirola deftly tells the story of this legendary fixture in America's comedic history. As a treat for true fans we’re screening a special one-night-only double bill with National Lampoon’s Animal House.
