Doc Soup: Hot Docs' monthly screening series that presents Festival hits and award-winning docs.
Take an unprecedented behind-the-scenes tour of The New Yorker and discover the art, inspiration and madness that go into creating the magazine’s iconic single panel cartoons. Each week quirky and imaginative cartoonists, from legends like Roz Chast and Mort Gerberg to newcomers like Liana Finck and Ed Steed, parade through the office. Marshalling the madness is longtime cartoon editor Bob Mankoff, who curates while nurturing new talent, preserving the old guard, evolving the industry and keeping it relevant. Hilarious and touching, Very Semi-Serious is an entertaining look at the future of comedy and the importance of laughing at ourselves.
Executive producer Deborah Shaffer will be in attendance at all screenings to introduce the film and answer questions. She will be joined by cartoonist Liana Finck on Wednesday, December 2, and The New Yorker cartoon editor Bob Mankoff on Thursday, December 3.
