Meet the pioneers creating a new model for sustainability. Industrious, dedicated and creative people across Canada are living “off grid”—without any connection to the electrical or natural gas infrastructures that criss-cross our nation. Often constructing their own homes, sourcing their own water and sustainably disposing of their own waste, these renegades are wary of the dangers of a too-convenient lifestyle that comes on the back of huge environmental costs and unseen masses of workers. But how can we be fully responsible for ourselves in a world where modern conveniences seem inescapable? Shot over the course of two years, Life Off Grid brings us face-to-face with people living off the land in every province and territory of Canada. From the frigid arctic to the lush West Coast rainforest, old problems are met with inventive solutions and a new, long-sighted approach to civilization is forged.
