This Film Should Be Played Loud: See new, classic and rare concert films on the big screen.Go back in time with Tony Wilson (Steve Coogan, in one of his many excellent collaborations with director Michael Winterbottom) in this thoroughly irresistible chronicle of the Manchester music scene from punk rock through new wave and Madchester—with, of course, a stellar soundtrack. After having a life-changing experience at a gig by a little-known band called the Sex Pistols, Tony finds himself on the cutting edge of an all-out music revolution: setting up a record label and signing Joy Division (who go on to become New Order), the Happy Mondays and more seminal artists of their time. Throw in the birth of rave culture, the founding of super-famous dance club the Haçienda, not to mention a live DJ set in advance of the screening, and you have an evening of some of the greatest tunes ever made.
