Description

Doc Soup Sundays: A Sunday morning Doc Soup spin-off featuring the world's best art, culture and design docs.

Best known for his Tales of the City series of novels, Armistead Maupin is a beloved literary figure and activist for LGBTQ rights, but first he had to shed his bigoted roots after growing up in North Carolina. From his conservative family, to enlisting as a naval officer during Vietnam, to working with Nixon, to settling in San Francisco, Maupin’s life journey is a fascinating story of self discovery and the evolution of sexual politics in America. He tells the tale in this heartening documentary along with a little help from his friends Neil Gaiman, Laura Linney, Olympia Dukakis, Ian McKellen and other familiar faces.

Director Jennifer Kroot will participate in a post-screening Skype Q&A.

Co-presented by Glad Day Bookshop.
