Opera on Screen: Featuring the world's most celebrated operas.
Music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Director Jan Philipp Gloger presents a fresh and inventive take on Mozart’s comedic opera about a pair of lovers and their fidelity (or lack thereof) to each other. Guglielmo and Ferrando have entered into a wager to see who can seduce the other’s partner first. In this production, the instigator of the bet, Don Alfonso, is a theatre director who employs all skills and materials of his profession in order to ensure the women ultimately betray their men. A cast of young and rising talent adds further energy and vitality to this already imaginative production.
In Italian, with English subtitles. Includes one 10-minute intermission.
Critical praise:
- The Guardian - "The cast responds to Gloger’s complex theatrical demands with unstinting commitment."
- Independent - 4/5 stars, "Ensemble singing is strong; the standout is Daniel Behle’s gorgeous tenor as Ferrando."
