In Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, one third of children were living below the poverty line and graduation rates were only at 40%. Within this environment, a group of determined teachers and an idealistic principal founded the Brooklyn Community Arts & Media High School. With unconventional techniques, they work ingeniously and steadfastly to help the students who have been neglected or underserved by traditional schools.

A post-screening discussion with Emmanuel Lopez, author and award-winning film blogger, and Curtis Wiebe, Grade 4 Teacher at Morgan Elementary, will focus on what the new public looks like for Canadian schools—the funding disparity that is driving an education gap and what communities are doing to ensure their youth receive an education to compete in a 2020 economy.
