Tower of Song: Remembering Leonard Cohen: Pay tribute to the legendary poet, songwriter and artist.
Robert Altman’s critically acclaimed anti-western film famously features a soulful soundtrack from Leonard Cohen, whom we are honouring with this series. Warren Beatty and Julie Christie offer outstanding performances as John McCabe and Mrs. Miller—both strangers in a sad and rugged frontier town. They become entrepreneurial partners, and romantic partners of a sort, as they establish and run a brothel together. With fascinating flawed characters, evocative cinematography, innovative overlapping dialogue and haunting use of Cohen's songs, McCabe & Mrs. Miller brilliantly deglamorized and revitalized the most American of genres.
