Description

True Crime Tuesdays: All is not what it seems in this six-part doc series, all accompanied by special guest discussions.

One of the greatest documentaries of all time, Errol Morris’s 1988 masterpiece created something beautiful out of a horrific real-life event—and even went on to effect real change. Billed as "the first movie mystery to actually solve a murder," The Thin Blue Line is credited with overturning the death sentence conviction of Randall Dale Adams for the murder of a Dallas police officer. With a mix of artful re-enactments and captivating interviews, Morris explores the circumstances that led to this wrongful conviction. Combining a superb score composed by Philip Glass and mesmerising editing, the audience is pulled into a maze of unreliable witnesses and fuzzy evidence.

One of Canada's leading criminal, constitutional, administrative and civil rights lawyers Clayton C. Ruby will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A moderated by film critic and author Geoff Pevere.

Critical praise:

  • The New York Times - "A brilliant work of pulp fiction."
  • Time Out - 3/4, "Delightfully bizarre slice of investigative film-journalism."
  • BBC - "One of the most exhilarating examples of the genre."
  • Roger Ebert - "Documentary and drama, investigation and reverie."
