Description

True Crime Tuesdays: All is not what it seems in this six-part doc series, all accompanied by special guest discussions.

The Oscar-nominated first feature from Andrew Jarecki, the director of the true-crime smash hit The Jinx, introduces us to the Friedmans: an archetypal suburban American family. The father, Arnold, and his boys were natural jokesters and kept an abundance of family videos—but those jovial videos and pleasant exterior concealed dark secrets. In 1987, Arnold and the youngest son were arrested for truly heinous crimes. With access to their trove of home movies, Jarecki reveals how their facade crumbled from the inside out, gradually incorporating sensational archival news footage and gripping contemporary interviews.

Director Andrew Jarecki will participate in a post-screening Skype Q&A moderated by film critic and author Geoff Pevere.

Critical praise:

  • The Guardian - 4/5, "Rivetingly odd."
  • New York Times - "Engagingly evenhanded and intelligently assembled."
  • Roger Ebert - 3.5/4, "An instructive lesson about the elusiveness of facts."
