Description

Exhibition: The work of masters in exhibitions around the world.

Bringing the work of the Russian avant-garde to life, Revolution – New Art for a New World tells the stories of such masters as Chagall, Kandinsky and Malevich, who flourished creatively in the early 20th century before being silenced by Stalin’s Socialist Realism. Contextualized by curators, performers and descendants of artists, the film pays particular attention to the Bolshevik revolution in 1917 and the tumult that inspired such visionary artistry. Montages of paintings, photographs and archival footage vividly evoke this unique historical moment and the art born out of it that still holds such a powerful influence a century later.
