Following the 2009 assassination of Dr. George Tiller, a physician in the spotlight of the controversy surrounding third-trimester abortions in the US, only four doctors remain willing to perform the procedure. Despite death threats and fears for the safety of their families, doctors Warren Hern, Shelley Sella, Susan Robinson and LeRoy Carhart continue Dr. Tiller’s legacy, driven mainly by their compassion for the desperate women who seek them out. Under the 1973 court ruling in Roe vs. Wade, late-term abortions are only allowed when the life or mental health of the mother is at stake. They remain controversial because at 24 weeks, humans are potentially able to survive outside the womb. After Tiller profiles the doctors who work at the centre of one of the most radicalized and heated debates in the US. It exposes their moments of struggle and self-doubt amidst the immense pressure that accompanies their daily work.
