Bell Let's Talk, in partnership with Workman Arts is proud to present a free screening and conversation about My Sister Liv, a documentary by Grammy Award winning director Alan Hicks and Academy Award winning producer Paula DuPré Pesmen.
This year, the Bell Let’s Talk Day campaign put a spotlight on the growing need for mental health services and change, inviting Canadians to take meaningful action for mental health every day of the year. Helping a friend struggling with their mental health by learning how to support them and engaging in conversations about mental health to fight stigma are two actions explored in My Sister Liv.
My Sister Liv follows the inseparable sisters Tess and Liv. Liv is a young girl, growing up with relentless pressures of social media, teen depression and, often, suicidal thoughts. My Sister Liv takes us into a rare and riveting journey of raw emotions and fears of a young life on the edge — and ultimately a big sister’s desperate struggle to save her. As a family learns to cope with their new normal, they find hope in filling a gap around fearlessly talking about mental health and ultimately to save young lives.
More than 200 Canadians will attempt suicide everyday, twelve will die. Let's change this. Following the film, there will be a practical panel discussion with experts and special guests on the topic of suicide. Everyone can play a role by taking meaningful action to create positive change. The panel discussion will allow for audience members to engage in a practical discussion about suicide prevention. A supportive listener will be available on-site throughout the screening and discussion.
