Nahlah Ayed on The War We Won Apart

Curious Minds Author Talks

Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema Tue, May 28 7:00 PM

Join writer and broadcaster Nahlah Ayed, the award-winning host of CBC’s Ideas, for the exclusive Toronto debut of her new book, The War We Won Apart, a riveting true story of love, betrayal and a secret war.

Sitting down with another CBC legend, Anna Maria Tremonti, to discuss the book for the very first time, Ayed will introduce Toronto audiences to the unforgettable love affair of Sonia Butt, an adventurous young British woman, and Guy d’Artois, a French-Canadian soldier, whose lives intersected as clandestine agents in Winston Churchill’s secret army, the Special Operations Executive.

As the world’s deadliest conflict to date unfolds, Sonia and Guy learn how to parachute into enemy territory, how to kill, blow up rail lines, and to love each other.

Both a heart-stopping page-turner and a remarkable work of historical reporting, The War We Won Apart is one of the non-fiction triumphs of the year: a true-life counterpart to classic stories of star-crossed lovers and wartime intrigue such as Casablanca and The English Patient.

In conversation with renowned broadcaster and journalist Anna Maria Tremonti, former host of CBC's The Current and voice of the CBC Podcast, More with Anna Maria Tremonti.

Nahlah will sign books at the conclusion of the event.
