Description

Doc Soup Sundays: A new spin on Toronto's favourite doc series featuring premieres of the world's best art, culture and design docs.

One of the world’s most prolific art forgers, 65-year-old Guy Ribes has inundated the art market with his works over 30 years. Ribes never copied anything: his Picassos, Matisses, Chagalls, and Légers have the deceptive appearance of "real" works and equal the paintings that inspired them. In A French Forger, Ribes shares the secrets behind the creation of his "oafs," and recounts a flamboyant life full of pleasure and scams. The final one, which caused his downfall, is straight out of a thriller—including a phoney widow, fake inheritors, a Swiss collector and shameless art dealers.

In French, with English subtitles.

AGO curator Kenneth Brummel will be in attendance for a Q&A and director Jean-Luc Leon will participate in a Skype Q&A following the screening.
