Description

Films Changing the World: Must-see docs exploring new issues and transforming the way we see the world.

Costing more than twice as much as the Three Gorges Dam and causing massive environmental and social disturbance throughout China, the South—North Water Transfer Project has displaced hundreds of thousands of citizens. Last Harvest puts a human face to this colossal project by following the remarkable journey of Mr. and Mrs. Xu, an elderly Chinese farming couple forced to relocate in its wake. Lyrical and intimate, the film brings us close to compelling pair as they are forced to pick up and try to make a new home late in life. With a thoughtful lens, first-time director (and Bloor Hot Docs Cinema staff member!) Jane Hui Wang offers a direct experience of the collision between traditional culture and modernization, through which we see the imminent extinction of Old China as New China emerges.

In Mandarin, with English subtitles.

Director Jane Hui Wang will be in attendance to introduce the film and participate in a Q&A.

Co-presented by Planet in Focus.
