Description

In the year 1933, Germany was the vibrant and diverse centre of the musical world. But like so many things with the rise of the Third Reich, music was hijacked for propaganda purposes. Thousands of musicians were forced to flee Europe, and Exit: Music focuses on five composers whose work had all but disappeared in the rush. Today, their stories are told by family members and biographers, with rare archival footage and commentary from experts. But perhaps most importantly, their lost compositions are now performed by the ARC Ensemble (Artists of the Royal Conservatory), who have spent the last decade restoring their unknown masterpieces to the repertoire.

Director James Murdoch and producer/film subject Simon Wynberg will be in attendance for Q&As at both screenings on February 16.

Co-presented by The Royal Conservatory of Music.
