In this popular TIFF award-winner, the "Godmother of the French New Wave" Agnès Varda, now at aged 89 and spirited as ever, teams up with 34-year-old superstar artist JR, visiting French villages and honouring their inhabitants with striking murals. They tour the picturesque countryside in a van outfitted to produce massive prints which they then put up on buildings, creating monuments to everyday individuals. As this unlikely duo moves from town to town they come across a marvelous cast of characters, all the while becoming close friends. Faces Places is a touching and generous celebration of art’s connective power, guided by the curiosity and creativity of two visionaries.
