Set amidst political turmoil during the Napoleonic Wars, the tragic romance between the famous singer Tosca and the painter Cavardossi plays out with urgent passion, expressed in some of opera’s most sublime arias. The Chief of Police, Scarpia, is a ruthless villain who wants to split the lovers apart and take Tosca as his own. With Cavardossi sentenced to death, Tosca will do anything to save him. One of the most performed operas of all time, Puccini’s music is tense and achingly beautiful right up until the final unforgettable moments of this timeless masterpiece.
