Description

Driven out of Somalia by civil war, Imra and each of her children were forced to seek refugee status in separate countries. Spread across Germany, Italy, Canada and Ethiopia, they assumed they'd reunite in the future, but decades later they remain apart. When a crisis hits and elderly Imra must move again, the question of where to go becomes urgent and complicated. Filmmakers Melanie Andernach and Andreas Köhler travel the globe between each of Imra's children, documenting just how convoluted the idea of home has become. Battling indifferent bureaucracies, economic realities and intolerant communities, each one struggles to accept whether they're where they belong, or if their family can ever be whole again. Beautifully shot and stirring unexpected conflicts along the way, this nuanced look at the immigrant experience is as timely as it is touching. Myrocia Watamaniuk
