In the lead-up to the 1992 American presidential election, acclaimed documentary filmmakers Chris Hegedus and D A Pennebaker were given complete access to Bill Clinton's top campaign strategists. Through this unfettered view, James Carville and George Stephanopoulos were seen as instrumental figures in shaping the future president's journey to the White House. The War Room went on to be nominated for an Academy Award and is widely considered one of the greatest political documentaries of all time. The film's influence can be seen year after year, both in documentary filmmaking and in news coverage of any political story. To this day, the film's raw and insightful display of the gruelling campaign trail remains relevant. In honour of the 25th anniversary of both Hot Docs and The War Room, we're presenting a special screening of the film and an extended discussion with the legendary filmmakers. Gabor Pertic
