In the vibrant tropics of southern Mexico, 12-year-old Yu'uk and his cherished younger brother spend languorous days roving the wilds, tracking beasts, and above all, fishing the lagoon that flanks their village. But as domestic hardships mount, Yu’uk comes to understand his obligation to leave home in the service of his family. The feelings of loss and longing associated with waning childhood are captured by the sensitive lens of director Aaron Schock, given full expression through gorgeous, point-of-view storytelling that places the brothers’ relationship at the film’s centre. Like the rainforest in which it is set, La Laguna teems with shimmering beauty.
In Central American Indigenous languages and Spanish with English subtitles.
