Join us as Hot Docs hosts its first-ever IMAX screening at Cinesphere with the world premiere of The Trolley.
The first fully functional trolley car was considered a miracle of the electric age, sparing citizens from piles of putrid horse manure and allowing them to glide effortlessly through daily commutes. Within a short period, trolleys revolutionized cities—yet today, only a few urban centres still use them. Traveling from Milan to Hong Kong and featuring the TTC's Red Rocket fleet through the years, this immersive cinema experience traces the invention, popularization and decline of a marvel of modern technology. Created specifically for IMAX presentation by Stephen Low (son of IMAX inventor and documentary pioneer Colin Low), it's a musical journey through the decades, a love letter to a bygone era—and a vision for a tram-filled future. As the world becomes increasingly urbanized and planners seek sustainable means of transportation, could the trolley see a resurgence? Alexander Rogalski
