When the railway industry departed Stratford, Ontario, in the early 1950s, a theatre company was founded to spur the local economy. In the years that followed, the Stratford Festival grew to become North America’s largest repertory company. Its well-earned iconic status has attracted audiences and artists from far and wide, but one individual may have shaped Stratford more than anyone aside from Shakespeare himself. Antoni Cimolino has spent the entirety of his career—nearly four decades—dedicated to this formidable institution. First as an actor, then as Executive Director, he’s served many roles, including his current tenure as Artistic Director. Entering his final season, Cimolini humbly reflects on how much the organization has shaped his life, and in turn how he’s helped forge its future. Seasoned Stratford performers Colm Feore and Eric McCormack share memories along with other collaborators in this fitting tribute to a legendary figure in Canadian theatre. Gabor Pertic
