A benefit screening of An Act of Defiance, a historical drama about Nelson Mandela’s lawyer Bram Fisher during the period leading up to and including the Rivonia Treason Trial in South Africa from 1963 to 1964 when 10 political activists—including Mandela—were arrested for conspiracy against the Apartheid government. In this riveting fiction film, the sympathetic Fisher risks his career and freedom to defend these men, saving them from the death penalty.
Post-screening discussion hosted by Zahra Mohamed, Executive Director of The Stephen Lewis Foundation
Hosted by five Toronto area Grandmother groups, funds raised from this screening will go to The Stephen Lewis Foundation's Grandmothers Campaign, providing grandmothers and the children in their care with food, educational supplies, uniforms and school fees, medical care, HIV counselling and testing, adequate housing and bedding, counselling and support groups and home visits.
