With an influence felt on everything from RuPaul’s Drag Race and Pose to popstars and runways, pay tribute to the glittering subculture that catapulted drag—and the end of rigid gender expression—to the mainstream in the 2010s.

There’s simply no throwing shade at New York City’s underground ball scene, a fierce community of LGBTQ youth-of-colour on the frontlines of the Black and Trans Lives Matter movements. Follow the lives of seven hopeful young walkers as they prepare to vogue their way through Harlem’s Kiki balls, where gender can be safely enacted through equal parts activism and artistic expression. Picking up 25 years after Jenny Livingston’s seminal Paris is Burning, and produced by Pose choreographer Twiggy Pucci Garçon, Kiki breathes vivid life into the representation of a community who demands visibility and real political power.

Promotional Partner: Regent Park Film Festival
