Driven by its own political agenda, the government in Uzbekistan has started a war on terror, which has resulted in many innocent Muslims being falsely accused and imprisoned. In August 2001, Iskandar Khudoberganov was arrested on suspicion of his involvement in a 1999 bomb explosion in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent. As he languishes on death row, his sister Dilya finds herself plunged into an impassioned battle to free her brother from the notorious desert prison nicknamed “the place of no return.” Throughout her harrowing pursuit for justice and human rights, Dilya must escape her own country. Along the way, she falls in love and is unexpectedly drawn into a real-life thriller of betrayal, spies and assassins. She must face the reality that the arms of the regime that jailed her brother extend far beyond the country’s borders and have a dangerous hold on her life. Heather Haynes
