For over 60 years, legendary civil rights leader John Lewis has confronted the world’s many injustices, from voting rights and gun control to health-care reform and immigration. Guided by his belief in good, necessary trouble, the longtime Georgia congressman—now 79 years old—recalls his life story and tremendous political achievements, including his fateful meeting with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. But at a time when the rights he fought to secure are increasingly in peril, Lewis’ story also comes with an urgent message. Both a poignant portrait and clear-eyed history lesson, Dawn Porter’s film celebrates an American hero whose legacy is far from over.
