Description

Official Selection—Sundance Festival 2020

American collector Agnes “Aggie” Gund sounded a rallying cry that reverberated throughout the art world when she sold a beloved painting from her collection to help fuel criminal-justice reform. The 165 million-dollar proceeds from the sale of Roy Lichtenstein’s “Masterpiece” would start the Art for Justice Fund, a monumental effort to end mass incarceration and bridge the gap between “blue chip” art and serving the common good. In this intimate portrait of a true maverick, Aggie opens up to her daughter, Emmy-winning director Catherine Gund, about her upbringing, the breadth of her impressive career, and her unwavering commitment to the fight for justice. Aggie’s defiant journey will remind you of the power of art to transform consciousness and inspire social change.

Featuring a pre-recorded Q&A with filmmaker Catherine Gund, moderated by Sarah Dinnick, a Canadian photographer, visual communicator, and founding partner of the award-winning design firm Dinnick & Howells.
