American collector Agnes “Aggie” Gund sounded a rallying cry that reverberated throughout the art world when she sold a beloved painting from her collection to help fuel criminal-justice reform. The 165 million-dollar proceeds from the sale of Roy Lichtenstein’s “Masterpiece” would start the Art for Justice Fund, a monumental effort to end mass incarceration and bridge the gap between “blue chip” art and serving the common good. In this intimate portrait of a true maverick, Aggie opens up to her daughter, Emmy-winning director Catherine Gund, about her upbringing, the breadth of her impressive career, and her unwavering commitment to the fight for justice.
