Description

The Opening Night Film of Hot Docs 2020 returns for a limited run on Hot Docs at Home!

One of Kenya’s most outspoken voices, photojournalist and activist Boniface “Softie” Mwangi is determined to see an end to the corruption and the colonial-era tribalism that has divided his homeland since before its independence. But his battles against injustice have always created turmoil for his family. When he fights to run for office amidst a pay-to-play political landscape, his ideals are put to the test—should country really come before family, as he’s always believed? A complex and moving portrait of an honourable man, this Hot Docs and Sundance Festival hit raises questions about the demands of activism and the intimate costs of social change.

Featuring a special post-film Q&A with director Sam Soko, recorded at Hot Docs 2020. Soko is a 2017 Hot Docs-Blue Ice Group Documentary Fund recipient and former Hot Docs Festival mentee.

The film will be available for 48 hours from when you start the stream. Please note streaming is only possible from inside Canada. Need assistance? Visit our FAQ page or email us at streamingsupport@hotdocs.ca.
