Since 1935, the southern Virginia city of Galax has been home to the world’s oldest fiddler’s convention, where generations of strummers and pickers jam together to the foot-stomping sounds of Old-Time and Bluegrass. In this heartfelt love letter to their roots, set against the picturesque Appalachian Mountains, sister filmmakers Julie Simone and Vicki Vlasic take you inside the 80th anniversary of the Old Fiddler’s Convention, capturing the musical magic that surrounds the festival each year. Like taking a step back in time, this rollicking, toe-tapping doc will remind you of the uplifting and healing power of music.
Screening includes exclusive performances by Celtic fiddler Duncan McDougall (TSO, Calgary Philharmonic) and Métis fiddler and KUNÉ member Alyssa Delbaere-Sawchuk, recorded at the beautiful Koerner Hall.
Presented in partnership with The Royal Conservatory
