10 years ago this March, the world witnessed one of the worst disasters in recent time—the Japanese earthquake and tsunami. During the massive quake, 25 million tonnes of debris was washed into the ocean, meaningful personal items and memories once believed to be lost forever. But over time, some of those artifacts have been found, washed ashore in North America. Canadian filmmakers John Choi and Nicolina Lanni take us on an epic adventure across continents as regular citizens travel to Japan in the hope of reuniting survivors with vital pieces of their past. Lost & Found is a beautiful film on resilience and the unlikely friendships and transformations that are forged in the wake of a disaster.
Following the film, directors John Choi and Nicolina Lanni join Hot Docs programmer Aisha Jamal for a Q&A on their film and the impact of tragic events of the Fukushima earthquake and tsunami on its 10th anniversary.
