One of the classical world’s most venerated figures, Argentine-Israeli pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim has spent decades working to promote intercultural understanding through music. Out of his long-time friendship with Palestinian-American humanist Edward Said, Barenboim founded the groundbreaking West-Eastern-Divan orchestra. Now, 20 years later, Barenboim-Said Academy is born. Watch as the maestro inaugurates this innovative new school in Berlin, uniting young musicians from Israel and the Arab world under the shared mission of humanism, music and philosophy.
