Artscapes: Creative minds, artistic pursuits and inventive filmmaking

The 2008 financial crisis sounded alarm bells heard around the world. Fed up with predatory economic institutions and drastic wealth disparity, community-led movements like Occupy, the rise of cryptocurrency and the recent GameStop stock phenomenon revealed that grassroots communities, be it in person or online, are ready to take aim at archaic economic systems that are beneficial for a few and predatory to many. Filming over five years, a mischievous filmmaking duo educate themselves and their community about financial literacy and the constructs of debt and together create their own currency and open their own bank with the lofty goal of eliminating debt. Bank Job is a charming romp that explores our ability to challenge outmoded systems and fight for financial freedom. At a time when most people—including politicians—do not understand how money comes into existence, Bank Job pulls back the veil on the dark world of debt with wit and insight that will leave you enraged, informed and inspired.
