Description

Artscapes: Creative minds, artistic pursuits and inventive filmmaking

In picturesque Provence, reverential tourists and art lovers flock to the atelier of Post-Impressionist master Paul Cézanne. Referred to as "father to us all" by Picasso, Cézanne is credited with inspiring generations of modern artists. Unique among Impressionists, he preferred painting in a studio to working en plein air (in the open air). Today, his studio is a meditative space frozen in time, and his unconventional methods and artistic legacy are not only seen, but felt. In this picture-perfect space, director Sophie Bruneau trains her lens on a visitor's sensory experience and on the three women who serve as loyal custodians of the studio. As stewards for the visitors and space alike, they now breathe life into the stillness Cézanne cultivated. An immersive and voyeuristic experience akin to visiting a favourite museum. Denae Peters
