Dear Elnaz

In January of 2020, a Ukranian Airlines flight was shot down minutes after taking off from Tehran, Iran, by an Iranian surface-to-air missile, killing everyone on board. Dear Elnaz opens with the pilot's distress call, setting the stage for the intimate story of love and loss to follow. Javad and Elnaz had moved to Edmonton only two years prior to pursue their doctoral studies at the University of Alberta. Now, dealing with the loss of his wife Elnaz, who perished without a trace on the flight, Javad is left to pick up the pieces of his life. Accompanied by a camera crew, he revisits the places that held meaning for the couple. Javad's grief and raw emotion turns to outrage as he grapples with the question of how to seek justice from the Iranian government for a life taken too soon. Aisha Jamal
