Women have always had to fight longer and harder than men to break through the club scene and reach the pinnacle of stand-up comedy. But things are finally starting to shift. Featuring interviews with comedy legends and rising stars, Hysterical is a poignant journey backstage and on the road with a group of hilarious women who are changing the game and exploring what it takes to become the voices of their generation and their gender. Diving deep into the past struggles and accomplishments of each comic, this timely film questions the social structure of an entire industry calling for greater gender and racial equality. Through the artists who first blazed the trail and those continuing the battle, we’re experiencing a tangible shift in the balance of power that will hopefully transcend comedy and bleed into everyday life. Featuring Kelly Bachman, Margaret Cho, Fortune Feimster, Rachel Feinstein, Marina Franklin, Nikki Glaser, Judy Gold, Kathy Griffin, Jessica Kirson, Lisa Lampanelli, Wendy Liebman, Carmen Lynch, Bonnie McFarlane, Sherri Shepherd and Iliza Shlesinger. Directed by Andrea Nevins. Premiering on FX Canada this summer.
