Systems Down: Challenging the status quo
Inspired by Florence Nightingale's methods from 150 years ago, a small nursing home in Denmark practises a controversial treatment for people with dementia: a prescription of hugs, conversation, eye contact, cake and cocktails. The staff shift the focus from medicine to "care treatment," enhancing the residents' quality of life by encouraging a sense of community that celebrates life, creates comfort and increases conversation. It Is Not Over Yet provides an urgently needed and aspirational portrait of long-term care that inspires a complete overhaul of how the elderly and people with dementia are treated in the healthcare system. It has become obvious, now more than ever before, that the power of kindness and the need for human contact are essential requirements for health and happiness for all ages, and this life-affirming and uplifting look at caregiving, aging and death adds hospice hygge to that list.
