Description

Through the Night is a tender, heart-wrenching portrait capturing the children, parents and caregivers of a 24-hour child care centre in upstate New York. Intimate profiles of two mothers—one working three jobs around the clock and a nurse working the night shift at a local hospital—intersect at Nunu and Pop Pop's daycare. Parents turned professional caregivers, Nunu and Pawpaw dedicate their lives to raising children and supporting parents. Their philosophy provides much-needed aid to American families struggling to get by due to financial hardships, stagnant wages and rising costs for basic necessities. In the non-stop cycle of bills and work, both child and parent are implicated in the personal costs of an economy throttled by minimum wage jobs and a scarcity of government support. Samah Ali
