After travelling across the country to educate audiences with his knowledge and research, Jeffery Robinson speaks to his largest audience in New York City. Prominently known for his role as the deputy legal director of the ACLU, he maintains that for the US to move forward as a nation, people need to move past the fantasy of a post-racial society and grapple directly with the country's violent history of anti-Black racism. Reaching back into history starting from the transatlantic slave trade, he draws a clear line between how enslavement, fear and most importantly white supremacy is engraved into the very law that governs modern life. For Robinson, to understand who Americans are and why inequalities exist today—and to forge ahead towards a new frontier—a thorough understanding of race in the United States is the first, most crucial step.
