This talk was originally broadcast live on July 22, catch up on the recording!

Why is democracy so threatened in America and around the world? And what can we do about it? At this live Canadian premiere, Ben Rhodes, a former White House aide and close confidant to President Barack Obama, will discuss his search for answers and the deeply personal, beautifully observed new book he’s written about that quest. Part memoir and part reportage, After the Fall is a riveting account of Rhodes' travels around the world and the lessons he’s learned from a diverse set of characters—from Barack Obama himself to Cuban rebels to a rising generation of international leaders. Rhodes will join CBC’s Rosemary Barton to explore what it will take to confront the scourge of nationalism and authoritarianism—and the inspiration we can all draw from the politicians, activists and dissidents who are fighting for a more just and democratic world.

Rosemary Barton

In conversation with Rosemary Barton, CBC's Chief Political Correspondent.
