Description

American art came of age thanks to a band of Abstract Expressionists known as the New York School. These painters, poets and performers were not content to imitate European masters and styles. They looked within to create monumental art that remains a singular expression of the modern quest for individuality and personal freedom. Providing a retrospective overview of the movement, this rare 1972 documentary features interviews with and footage of the major artists of the time including Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Jack Tworkov, while also offering insight into ideas and issues raised by the paintings themselves.

The film will be available for 48 hours from when you start the stream. Please note streaming is only possible from inside Canada. Need assistance? Visit our FAQ page or email us at streamingsupport@hotdocs.ca.
