Description

Streaming December 28 - February 23

Of the cities in the world, few are depicted in and mythologized more in film and TV than the city of Los Angeles. Carefully weaving together footage from films made in or about the city, Thom Andersen gradually builds his conversation-starting treatise about how Hollywood has represented, and misrepresented, its hometown. Though you may know some films chronicled here: Chinatown, Blade Runner, LA Confidential, others like The Exiles and Killer of Sheep are rarer finds—and all together help reveal the real city that lives beneath the tinsel. Offering critical insight on race, class and the public space, this landmark visual essay has been unearthed and restored after long being unavailable.

The film will be available for 48 hours from when you start the stream. Please note streaming is only possible from inside Canada. For additional assistance, visit our FAQ page or email us at streamingsupport@hotdocs.ca.
