Both a parody of and homage to the science-fiction genre (especially Star Trek and its fandom), this cult classic depicts the cast of a fictional hit TV series, Galaxy Quest, who are drawn into an interstellar conflict by actual aliens who think the series is an accurate documentary. With an all-star cast—including Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman and Tony Shalhoub—and a razor-sharp script, the film goes where few films have gone before, winning love from Star Trek fans for its affectionate satire, from mainstream audiences for its comedy, and even from members of Star Trek's famous cast. George Takei joked that it was "a chillingly realistic documentary...I do believe that when we get kidnapped by aliens, it's going to be the genuine, true Star Trek fans who will save the day.
