Description

The eighth film in the Star Trek film franchise and the second to feature the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation, First Contact joins The Wrath of Khan at the top of the Star Trek movie pantheon. As the crew of the USS Enterprise-E travel back in time from the 24th century to the mid-21st century to stop the cybernetic Borg from conquering Earth, Patrick Stewart's Captain Jean-Luc Picard must face the Borg queen (silkily played by Alice Krige), even as Data is tempted by her promise of humanity. Directed by TNG cast member Jonathan Frakes (a.k.a. Commander Riker), whose deep love of Trek shines through every scene, the film balances the Borg's Giger-esque design and body-horror vibe with a sense of wide-eyed, Gene Roddenberry–worthy wonder in its stirring portrait of humanity reaching for the stars. A tightly paced, relentlessly entertaining film that builds on the franchise's deepest, most resonant themes, this critically lauded, Academy Award–nominated film is a modern sci-fi classic, showing the Next Generation cast at the height of their charisma.
